Youth Conference

The Lake Como Youth Conference, organized by Como Lions Heart and Richelle's Heart, takes place at the Como Community Center. This event is designed for youth in grades 8 through 12 and aims to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities they will face in high school and beyond.

The conference features various workshops covering critical topics such as problem-solving, conflict resolution, and addressing gun violence. These sessions will provide participants with practical skills and strategies for navigating complex issues.

Eighth graders will receive guidance on what to expect as they transition into high school, while high school students will have the opportunity to attend workshops focused on preparing for the SAT and ACT exams. Additionally, there are sessions dedicated to college readiness for seniors, helping them understand the steps they need to take as they approach graduation.

Como Lions Heart also offers a "Get Paid to Study" program, which encourages college students to study for at least three hours a day at the library, with attendance verification required. Participation in the Lake Como Youth Conference is a prerequisite for applying to this program, as well as for the College Dorm Kit Program and the Lake Como Juneteenth Celebration Senior Scholarship, which is presented by Richelle's Heart.

The conference will also include a career fair, providing attendees with insights into various career paths. Door prizes will be available, adding an element of excitement to the event. Overall, the Lake Como Youth Conference aims to equip young people with the tools and resources they need for high school and college success.
